Song Sung Blue
Kate Hudson’s performance in Song Sung Blue isn’t just strong, it’s the kind of quietly devastating, fully lived‑in work that absolutely deserves to be in the Oscar conversation.
She dials back any showiness and instead lets the character breathe, building an emotional arc that sneaks up on you. The charm is still there, but it’s laced with fatigue, disappointment, and a very real ache. In tiny details—how she holds a smile a beat too long, how her voice catches on a line you don’t expect—she shows a woman trying to stay afloat while everything she imagined for her life slips away.
The film rests on our belief in her, and she delivers: funny without undercutting the drama, heartbreaking without ever begging for our sympathy. It’s layered, unflashy, and completely essential to why the movie works. This is career‑level work from Hudson, and it more than earns an Oscar nod
As a secondary note, Ella Anderson, was phenomenal as her daughter. She blew me away with the depth of her talent! She’s absolutely going to have a long career!

Sweet Caroline, ba ba bamm… this really was a fantastic movie and story, Hugh and Kate did such an amazing job! Think Hugh preforms a better Neil Diamond than Neil Diamond.

It’s a rollercoaster, you’re having fun and the all of a sudden you’re depressed and then it does that a couple more times.
Performances from the 2 leads are good and singing is good too.

Song Sung Blue isn’t the worst movie I’ve ever seen, but it’s definitely not great either. The biggest issue for me was that it felt like it was missing a lot of necessary plot. The movie relied heavily on emotional turning points, and while those moments themselves actually worked, we were constantly bombarded with them. It felt like every thirty minutes there was another major shift in the story without enough time in between to understand how the characters got there.
Because of this, the pacing felt rushed and overwhelming. Instead of seeing how one emotional moment led into the next, the film just jumped forward, which made the story feel fragmented. We didn’t really get to sit with the aftermath of anything or see how the characters processed what happened to them. A lot of things just happened, and then the movie moved on.
However there were parts of the film that were effective, especially when it came to individual scenes and performances. You could tell the movie wanted to say something meaningful, and at times it almost got there. But without enough development or buildup, those moments didn’t have the long-term impact they could have had.
Overall, Song Sung Blue feels like a movie with good ideas that weren’t fully developed. It isn’t terrible, but it feels unfinished, like it needed more plot, more explanation, and more breathing room to let the emotional moments really carry weight throughout the story.
I also have a strong feeling that the sisters were put in there by big Hollywood to mimic a lesbian relationship that apart of the real story. Anyways, wouldn’t recommend.
4.5/10.

Song Sung Blue was frustrating to watch due to its disjointed structure and constant jumps in narrative and tone. Instead of feeling emotionally guided, I felt dragged from scene to scene, unable to connect to the story or characters.

They can’t catch a break. And they’ve gotta move. They can’t live on the curving street anymore.

Enjoyed this. It’s a tearjerker, but hopeful. Great music (yes, I’m a Neil Diamond fan). I know it’s based on a true story, no idea how well it aligns, but if those folks went through half of what happens in the movie… damn!!!

Holy tone shift 😭 here I thought this was just a unique way of showing love to Neil Diamond by making a movie about a real cover band
Movie is definitely better after it shifts
