This movie is absolutely ridiculous from beginning to end, but I cannot help but watch it. I have loved it for years and frequently get the music stuck in my head. There is no way this movie would fly in today’s culture, but considering when it was made it is a masterpiece. 10/10

A masterpiece of 1950s western expansion glorification mixed with slapstick, borderline generationally ridiculous humor that at times is so bizarre you’re forced to believe it’s being played straight. As a musical this is a ton of fun, the numbers are catchy and well performed but the dancing was shockingly enjoyable. The soundstage this was filmed on was unreal, beautiful paintings for the backgrounds with vibrant, maximum exposure colorful set dressing. This seriously could’ve been a Tim Robinson sketch it’s so offensively ridiculous that it’s a straight comedy. Under a more progressive microscope jesus christ this didn’t age well, I’m not saying this has a positive message about women, but trust me it jumps the shark and it does backflips while doing it. I hate musicals and it gets my seal of approval, great watch. 4.5/5

Watched it at our first room 3 girls sleepover

literally one of my all time favorite movies as a kid. I would make my family watch it so often

I honestly love this musical… however it is the definition of Stockholm syndrome (that part definitely didn’t age well).

Besides that it is a 10/10!

A bit sexist and outdated at times in its dialogue and story, but this was still an interesting and good watch. The barn raising dance is one of the greatest dance sequences of all time.
