Saturday Night Fever
Saturday Night Fever is wonderfully honest and completely accurate when it comes to depicting that stagnant environment that keeps young people like Tony pinned down.

Misogyny, racism, and a surprise gang rape scene at the end that is extraordinary disturbing… especially when you factor in the fact that the movie implies it’s HER fault. Yuck.

Amazing soundtrack and the dance scenes were awesome, but other than that I really didn’t enjoy this movie. All the characters start to get less enjoyable as the film goes on and you’re really left rooting for no one at the end of the film. I do not see myself watching this again

if john travolta has one million haters, i’m one of them.
if john travolta has one hater, it’s me.
if john travolta has zero haters, i’m dead.
if the world is against john travolta, i am with the world.
if the world is for john travolta, i am against the world.

bee gees as most of the soundtracks made me keep watching the movie, but i excepted a different genre, not concerning themes like raping or misogyny, evident from many disturbing scenes

This was good but pretty off-putting for me because I went in expecting a fun, lighthearted dance movie that the 70s and 80s did so well and it ended up being pretty depressing. It had some dancing, but mostly focused on really heavy topics

aside from how good john travolta looks in his suits, the dance scenes, and OF COURSE the soundtrack- there really isn’t much else that’s enjoyable.

Lot to unpack with this one as I didn’t realize how mature this film is with rape scene, gang fight, and a whole lot of family drama. I liked the dancing with it but I feel that was sometime overshadowed with everything else going on. It’s not bad but not for me personally.

I had high expectations for this film. At first, I thought it was going to be a typical romance story where everyone lives happily ever after, but it turned out to be something completely different.
John Travolta’s character is supposed to be a 19-year-old guy, but he already looked closer to 25, as did his dance partner. Tony (Travolta) is a sexist and misogynistic character who does not treat women very well.
I also felt that the storyline about his brother, who no longer wanted to become a priest, was unnecessary because it didn’t really influence Tony’s character development. I expected his brother to have a conversation with him that would help him “grow up” or change his perspective, but that never happened.
Near the end of the film, the characters needed more development and growth. There were opportunities for meaningful changes, but unfortunately, they were not fully explored.
The best part of the movie was definitely the disco music. 🪩 Bee Gees, Yvonne Elliman, Walter Murphy, just to name a few. The dance sequences were incredible and perfectly captured the style and energy of the 1970s.

A Bee Gees explosion. Didn’t feel as cathartic as I had hoped. Those voice overs… woof. Lots of parts didn’t age well, however the style was very on brand and some pretty unique shots
