Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken

Felt like a combination of Turning Red and some weird Dreamworks retaliation against the Little Mermaid. Decent one time watch but I feel like they gave it all away in the trailer.

With a clunky plot, lackluster third act battle, and a “twist villain” that was revealed in the trailer, the film came out very boring.

Why did I watch this

this was a cute, colorful, and fun movie. the underwater twist on the typical high school drama trope was interesting, and the animation was great. it was a little slow at times, but it had heart and humor. i also liked the message about embracing who you are!

Honestly? The Kraken Queen we didn’t know we needed. Ariel could never.
