The Rip

This RIPS! Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are always great together, with a stacked cast alongside them. I was in and along for ride from the first second. The whole movie had me on edge questioning what was going on and who to trust. The scene towards the end in the tank was so tense.

The first half is much stronger than the second with enough distraction and diversions to keep you guessing. At some point they make it pretty clear who’s bad but there’s still enough to keep up the tension. A stacked cast so the acting is great. Just a solid, entertaining movie.

As someone who suffers with insomnia, I'm shocked I managed to get through this film without dosing off... I don't know what other Queue users were watching when reviewing this, but this genuinely was an abysmal watch. Made no sense to me, quite literally a pointless mess 😭

Surely this is better than anyone expected, right? The Rip is exactly what a thriller should be; high-octane, surprisingly tense, great action, well written, strong performances. The twists really shocked me, just when I thought I had it all figured out, the movie throws a major curve ball and pivots into a really unexpected, engaging direction.

Admittedly, the third act goes a bit crazy. Between all the reveals, it gets so nuts to the point where it loses the grounded tone of what came before. But honestly, fuck it, this whole thing was just cool man and it ended on an explosive high that I’m unbothered by the shift.

Everyone gives a damn good performance here, even Scott Adkins!! It’s Damon and Affleck’s show though, the film doesn’t even try to deny it - why would they? They’re an iconic duo and frankly I wish they did more projects together, but it makes occasions when they do all the more special.

I don’t know what’s in the water this year, but we’re seeing some of the best January releases I’ve known since I can remember! Starting 2026 strong, and I’m here for it!

Better than I was expecting. I liked the twist - but then the movie went on for another 35 minutes for some reason.
