A powerful story of amends and how addiction not only effects the user but the people around them. Very different from Demme’s other work. He seems to have been influenced a lot by Dogme 95; Anne Hathaway delivers her best performance.

Some may say it feels dragged out at some points but I think that’s intentional. This film is meant to feel real, like you are almost there with them. Is this a traditional film where there’s something bad that happens and is resolved by the end? No. It really just abt life’s struggles.

liked it a LOT the second time around. i was not locked in or mature enough to pay attention to the movie the first time.

Good drama that really had a well written story.

It's a great film from Jonathan Demme and an amazing performance from Anne Hathaway. It just sucks that I didn't give a shit about Rachel's wedding, and this family didn't really do it for me either. At least the film ends nicely, so that's okay.

it’s nice to see actors get casted as sisters that actually look like they’d be sisters. people complain about how a lot of scenes were drawn out but they’re missing the point that this is supposed to feel like real life. it’s filmed like you’re watching someone’s actual family.

🦇 Opinion: This movie had a good dynamic but it just didn't hit right. A lot of droning, long parts that weren't necessary

definitely a difficult watch with plenty of painful, realistic characters; anne hathaway is excellent and keeps the melodrama from going over the top. wonderful camera-work and dedicated performances with a touching and fitting end makes this more than worthwhile

Great performances

A performances delight, with a simple but powerful story, this family drama shows us the sorrow and the joy around a celebration.

Truly painful watch but for my money it's Anne Hathaway's best performance.
