this movie really shows how black folk were treated differently from the jump but just bc we have talent we really are treated worse than normal (im black before you think “oh she said black folk that’s racist” 😭😭)

Again another amazing adaptation of black history, I love that he got a good ending. Recommend watching if your interested in history.

I expected a standard sports movie, but seeing Owens overcome discrimination totally hooked me.

What Worked:
James vanishes into the role, and his dynamic with Sudeikis grounds the film. Sweeping camera angles brilliantly recreate the 1936 Olympics. Through my Methodist faith lens, seeing a man use God-given talents to shatter racist ideologies reinforced my belief that walking in our true purpose naturally defeats hatred.

The Cuts:
Juggling politics and subplots made the momentum stall out; it was just spinning its wheels. The forced romance really dragged for me, distracting from the core stakes. Keeping it spoiler-free, the standard structure plays it way too safe, missing the chance to dig into his messy reality.

Verdict:
A safe biopic resting on James' great performance. Inspiring, but skip if you want a complex character study.

Favorite Line: “Out there on that track... there’s no black and white, there’s only fast and slow.”
