As far as goofy dumb-fun horror movies go, this one’s a pretty damn good one. They do a really good job with both visual and practical effects at making Ben seem genuinely scary and the tension is held really well the whole time.

3.3 - Admittedly, I just don’t like animal based horror very often, so if you do, & can move past the logic issues they usually have, then you’ll probably like this.

A lot of my complaints here are my general animal horror complaints. I have two big ones for this specifically. First, the animal puppetry is terrible. I know you can make a chimp look better than that. Second, there are so many moments that just fly in the face of logic & reason that despite my best efforts to suspend disbelief, I just can’t.

SPOILERS:

These teens are not stronger than a chimp in any way. You can’t push it, win tug of war with it, hold a door closed against it, or punch it into submission. Additionally, just minimal logic breaks down a lot of the plot. What’s the timeline here? Wasn’t the dad on a far away trip? Why couldn’t you just use Siri and call 911? Why did not one teen carry their phone with them? I’ll stop there but it just added up too much too quickly.

I’m happy to see Troy Kotsur again. And the gore and kills were solid, & was enough to keep some tension up, so anyone just looking for a gorefest will probably have fun. But it’s just never my thing. I mostly just felt bad for Ben because it wasn’t his fault.

I really wasn't expecting this to be as good as it was. I understand why people are calling it silly goofy, but honestly, it surpasses most low-budget horror films I've seen. The idea feels refreshing, although giving away a pivitol plot point in the opening sequence feels nonsensical. Otherwise, I'd go as far as to call it brilliant, which is rare for flicks that play on clichés. The acting/casting was great, and the story/pacing was just as captivating as the insanely uncanny practicals/visuals/directing. As far as entertainment goes, seeing Ben go Koba level sadistic for 90mins was bananas.

Loved it for the jump scares. Had some good comedic relief moments which i appreciated. Was almost giving 47 Meters Down/Crawl vibes.

it wasn’t a bad movie but i personally HATED it

Saw this as a Scream Unseen at AMC and it was intense. The kills are violent, the tension is thick, and the horror is real. It’s less of a straight horror movie than a thriller but they do play into some horror tropes. It’s damn good and enough to make me never want a chimp as a pet.

There were some good jump scares and the gory was alr. I kinda wish the story was a bit better, we got no context on the mongoose. I also don’t know if it was plot armor of he still remembered his family and that’s why he never like actually tried killing them.

3/10. The most Camp excuse for a “horror” I’ve seen in ages. If you like to be frustrated with characters then this is for you 💩
Wish I just watched the trailer and skipped the movie. Characters were over the top to the point it was insufferable to get through.
Don’t bother

easily the SCARIEST film i’ve ever watched. if gore is ur thing this movie will suit ur tastes. the plot was kind of basic but practical effects and acting makes up for it.

Went into this hesitant cause the trailer sucked, but actually had a super fun time with it. The characters are likeable enough to root for, the theme is fantastic (kindof like tubular bells), and the gore is really gnarly. Worth a watch for the carnage candy

Thought this was going to be a dumb low-budget watch and it turned out to be such a good and fun watch. My little brother was more reactive to this movie than any other horror we’ve watched together and it had him Googling tons of questions about rabies afterwards. 😅

Pretty much if that one scene from nope had an entire movie. Reminded me a little bit of cujo. This was really enjoyable, very tense moments that had my heart racing. The while cat and mouse aspect was very interesting and panicky. The gore was acceptional…
