I watched Ponyo as a kid so rewatching it again was like nostalgia and being back memories of childhood. It’s a fun loving movie that anyone could watch and enjoy. I could watch it over and over and still enjoy it each time.

Cute movie, Studio Ghibli never disappoints

Girl gave up magic powers and immortality for a 6 year old and taxes

The only entertaining piece of media I ever consumed where all obstacles are risible or short-lived. Before watching Ponyo I was simply unaware of the fact that one could tell a good story without real enemies. It’s like if family-friendliness was a good thing.

Another minor masterpiece from Miyazaki, arguably peak of Ghibli animation, the script is so visceral in its simplicity, and I’d say the ending is the chef’s kiss equivalent to being given on by Remy himself. The entire cast gives amazing performances with my standout being Neeson, this man steals the show as if he was playing the joker.

1st Act 8.9/10 (A very sweet start, the dynamics building last the whole movie, splish splash give me ham.)

2nd Act 9.6/10 (JAPAN COUNTRYSIDE IN FLOODED AMOUNTS OF RAIN? PEAK INCOMING.)

3rd Act 9.4/10 (This would make the perfect double bill to go with Flow.)

Plot 9.4/10 (It’s just so fucking sweet man that’s all I got to say it’s just so good.)

Soundtrack/Score 9.3/10 (Great throughout, highlight is the closing song.)

Acting 9.6/10 (LIAM NEESON YOU ARE A GOAT, ALONG WITH NARA AND FEY.)

Pacing 9.4/10 (Exactly how you want it, can be borderliningly slow at times but hey, why the fuck not?)

Cinematography 10/10 (The movie is absolutely fucking gorgeous, it’s probably my favourite Ghibli animation wise.)

Character Development 9.5/10 (These two 5 year olds? Yeah they’re goated.)

Writing 9.5/10 (So natural, so pure, so funny, so fucking good.)

Ending 9.7/10 (The ending shot is so good, finalised that warm feeling I had.)

Direction 9.6/10 (Miyazaki might genuinely be the greatest to ever direct animation, and at this point I don’t think it’s even a contest.)
