accidentally watched this in the cinema with my mum

oh boy. this movie is 50 shades of gray for the 2020’s. abusive relationship using the framework of kink, but either the writers or the audience or both don’t/won’t realize that. emotionally stunted men with zero communication, boundaries, or aftercare. made me sad not horny.

the camping scene of alexander getting his friend’s bf to give him a gobbie in front of his own bf was triggering. Kind of loved the film overall, a story of coming into one’s identity through heartbreak

What a wasted opportunity to finally show a healthy dom and sub relationship instead it’s just another toxic example on the books.

An audacious and realistic journey into self discovery. It offers a thoughtful, non conformist view of power dynamics and kink that feels earned rather than gimmicky. While intense and tough to watch at times, the acting is excellent and the emotional payoff is solid. 9/10.

I understand it’s a kink relationship however, Colin still wanted a typical loving relationship in some capacity, which is shown during his day off how happy he was. Ray was so abusive and dismissive and just using him. Colin never really stood up for himself besides when he stole the bike, but ended up sleeping outside. All this just to end up in a possibly similar relationship in the end. The acting is great and it’s a captivating movie. Makes you think what you really are willing to put up with, self respect and tolerance of other people’s behavior towards you. Overall liked the movie

Maybe I just lack knowledge about the kink community, but a lot of this read more to me as abuse than consensual kink, and I largely felt uncomfortable throughout the film. That’s not to say there weren’t parts I enjoyed. Other relationships in their community shown in the film felt more authentic and true to what they were aiming to portray.

Maybe it’s that this story is more of a journey of awakening for Colin than a true-love situation. I think overall the message just feels a bit murky to me.

Parts were really tough to watch as it felt like Colin didn’t have any agency in his life. But I do appreciate his story and how his control over his own life shifts throughout that film.

It was a bit of a letdown from my expectations but still a very intriguing film overall.

This is insane imagine how insecure and desperate you have to be to put up with that. At the end it looks like he won’t be disrespected again like he’s learned to respect himself ig but crazy. Nvm his date at the end “ur early😑” him”yeah sorry” he’s putting up with so much crap.

That was.. not what I was expecting. A tragic story. Harry and Alexander did a phenomenal job acting and putting you into this storyline of complex, troubled characters. Great emotional storytelling in facial and hand expression. Colin’s parents also did a fantastic job. I wanted a different outcome in the end, but alas. We all have a deep longing in our hearts, no matter how desperate or disillusioned you may be. I still love you Skarsgård.

it was the most atrocious relationship I ever witnessed on screen, there was no charm or even a spark of love that was shown throughout the entire movie, and it's just so toxic.

i love A24 but what the hell was this, not even having a good message, Colin was extremely unhappy just to have good moments that weren't even good or ended up badly, WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU NEED TO PLEAD TO SLEEP ON THE BED AND HE SAYS NO.
