Worst Jane Austen adaptation I think I’ve ever seen. Persuasion is my favorite of her novels and that butchered it. The dialogue is cringe, Johnson should never been cast as Anne. It was a pretty movie though…if you watch it on mute you might like it. Henry Golding was perfect.

If you like the book, you probably won’t like this movie. It changes the characters completely and the original themes are almost completely forgotten.

However, if you haven’t read the book this could be a mildly enjoyable comedy.

6/10 I enjoyed this, don’t take it too seriously. If you are anticipating the perfection of 2005’s Pride & Prejudice you will be disappointed. I’d probably watch again.

Mmm no soy muy de las pelis de época pero me gustó de esta que se rompa la 4 pared y el humor q le sumo, de todas formas me parece muy lenta, pasan pocas cosas y toda la vuelta para resolverse fácil y rápido al final. Aun así no me disgustó

I don’t think the movie acutely portrayed jane Austin vision, it didn’t feel historical and the characters talked as if they know what An iPhone is. However where the movie lacked in historical drama it did have a good color palette and over all nice cinematography. And I ❤️ Mary.

Dakota Johnson did a great job but the rest of the cast was pretty flat. It also felt like it needed more build for the storyline. I didn’t know why the audience should love Wentworth…

the music design is enchanting at times and the visuals tell the story beautifully even when no words are spoken.

Hard to keep track who is who, but you feel the regret/ sadness and the silences are deafening

Dakota Johnson takes Anne and makes her real. Not a heroine trapped in a drawing room, but a woman who’s learned to live around the absence of what she wanted. There’s a quiet strength in how she moves through the world, like someone who’s made peace with her own disappointment. And then Cosmo Jarvis walks back in and disrupts everything — Captain Wentworth isn’t the dreamy ideal you’d expect. He’s bruised. He’s careful. He doesn’t know if she’d want him back at all.

What makes this work isn’t the plot points. It’s the handwriting on the film itself. Cracknell chose to make something visually generous — every frame feels deliberate, like someone took real care with how light falls on a face or how a room tells you about who lives there. It’s not trying to be clever. It’s trying to let you feel.

Does it work? It depends on whether you show up willing to meet it halfway. If you expect Austen the way you’ve always known her, you’ll miss what this version is actually doing. But if you let it be what it is — a story about two people who never stopped mattering to each other — it lands.

they definitely ran it through a millennial buzzfeed style meme generator, but it was still pretty enjoyable. i think if it took itself more seriously it would have been kinda great. i think the cast, performances, lighting, score & set were good.
