i appreciate hypnotizing italy shots but the male gaze was kinda crazy

Parthenope is less about story and more about feeling. A hypnotic film filled with layers on time, desire, identity, and the weight of being seen as an image rather than a person (her and the professor’s son). It may feel slow, but that’s what makes it so hauntingly beautiful.

The way Italy was shot and captured in this film was beautiful but I don’t think it ever goes deep enough with the themes it’s exploring. Feels like all this beauty for absolutely nothing.

almost a like, but the super unnecessary incest kind of threw the entire film into a nosedive. she is definitely gorgeous and mostly kills it with her performance, alongside strong visuals, but i agree with the criticisms; overall very tone-deaf and hollow

Beautifully shot. Incredibly hard to follow at times, but from what I gathered, there are 3 stories being told. One about the importance of surface vs substance, one about finding purpose and meaning through aging, and another about the growth and history of Naples, Italy.

Well I don’t know what can I say. Very weird movie. Still don’t understand the end of it. 10/5

The scenery was very breathtaking, but the story was kind of all over the place and the ending was unsatisfactory

Maybe I’m not Italian enough for this movie but I just didn’t get it (regardless of the “beautiful scenery”). I’m sure there’s a lot of symbolism and deep messages that I just don’t get but this is not for me. The male gaze 🤢

Visually stunning and poetic, it captures Naples like a dream; but beneath the beauty, it feels distant and hollow. Sorrentino’s style shines, yet the story never fully connects. Gorgeous, yes; moving, not quite.

I’m so conflicted because I disagree with some of the plot because.. huh?? However the beautiful shots, acting, music and Celeste gave it a like. Very beautiful film. Don’t do this again though.

lost mad confused. is this based on someone??? also the incest culture, although not socially acceptable, was just very confusing and uncomfortable

Such a visually stunning and aesthetically rich film — I absolutely loved everything it had to offer. It felt like watching a dreamy perfume commercial. But it would have been wayyy better if it was a silent film i probably would have understood more…
