i appreciate hypnotizing italy shots but the male gaze was kinda crazy

The way Italy was shot and captured in this film was beautiful but I don’t think it ever goes deep enough with the themes it’s exploring. Feels like all this beauty for absolutely nothing.

almost a like, but the super unnecessary incest kind of threw the entire film into a nosedive. she is definitely gorgeous and mostly kills it with her performance, alongside strong visuals, but i agree with the criticisms; overall very tone-deaf and hollow

Maybe I’m not Italian enough for this movie but I just didn’t get it (regardless of the “beautiful scenery”). I’m sure there’s a lot of symbolism and deep messages that I just don’t get but this is not for me. The male gaze 🤢

Visually stunning and poetic, it captures Naples like a dream; but beneath the beauty, it feels distant and hollow. Sorrentino’s style shines, yet the story never fully connects. Gorgeous, yes; moving, not quite.
