did i miss something or what because this was genuinely the most boring movie i have ever seen in my life

this feels like screaming in lowercase; the music, the characters attitude, the dialogues everything was calm, which doesn't mean it wasn't profound tho, but the actions & story were hectic. it was so interesting!! truly amazing!!

Paris, Texas is unlike anything I’ve ever seen, however I am also of the belief that I watched this way too early in my life. A story about family, redemption and moving on by facing your fears, is not the movie I find myself to be at the appropriate age where it hits (for once). However there is a positive, the movie itself feels so rewatch able, like a warm blanket that keeps you warm enough to the point you can cry about all you’ve left behind and all you regret.

The movie itself from a technical aspect is phenomenal, the script is unique to the point nothing compares, the colour grading and cinematography may be an 11 borderline 12, and the acting is phenomenal, Stanton was Lewis before Lewis was Lewis. One last major point I’d like to make, is that the movie is entirely carried by its 3rd act, I can pinpoint the exact moment the movie does a 180 in quality, it was still good at the beginning don’t get me wrong, but it was nowhere near as good as the final act.

1st Act 8.5/10 (Slow burner, worth it in the end, but definitely need of rewatches in order to up the rating, as I was so frustrated with the tediousness of Stanton’s character for the entire act, I just wanted to google if he actually spoke.)

2nd Act 8.7/10 (A nice setup ups some amazing lines of dialogue along with the first pure show of great cinematography, just still a bit slow.)

3rd Act 11/10 (Could potentially even go up to a 12, it’s perfectly paced, the script is at its best, we had lines that court have been better when about redemption, it’s a masterpiece of an act and makes the entire film go from a warm blanket to a blanket of fucking lava.)

Plot 9.1/10 (An amazing twist but could’ve been so much better paced, but then again, rewatch may change opinion

Soundtrack/Score 9.4/10 (An amazing score, just wish there was a little bit more as some scenes felt empty.)

Acting 10/10 (Stanton and Kinski have generational performances, potentially rivalling the performances of Paul Dano and Lewis in TWBB.)

Pacing 8.7/10 (Slow burner, but given the fact it feels super rewatch able, may change with time.)

Cinematography 12/10 (There’s one shot that made it go from a 9.5 to this, and it is so fucking deserved.)

Character Development 9.6/10 (Phenomenal as is, will definitely fucking go up on rewatch, I have a feeling when I’m older I’ll definitely appreciate this a lot more, especially as I watched it with my dad.)

Writing 11/10 (I had trouble picking a quote cause not only is there buckets full but there’s like 3 long ass speeches I’d give it to but you’d be here all day reading them.)

Ending 11/10 (An absolute masterpiece of ending, with even more room to love it on a rewatch, WIM KNOWS HIS SHIT.)

Direction 10/10 (A distinct style, heartbreak, beauty, the struggles of an Everyman’s life, told through the beauty of Wim’s colours and amazing, yet so brutally honest scripts.)

9.9/10 - A movie that is both technically brilliant that’s more or less only fault is that of my age, which is not its fault, it is beautiful to me now, and it will be with me forever simply as a fond memory. At this moment in time, do I think it deserve that rating? No but I think it deserves the admiration of it.

So Paris, Texas is technically a 9.9/10 as I can see how good it is.

However basing it off my own personal experience with it along with my age (not the movies fault) I believe it deserves a well rounded 9.4/10

So I will meet in the middle with a very solid 9.6/10

I can’t tell if I hated it or loved it. The first acts felt like I was wasting my time, every minute dragged. The finale was rewarding, but did it require 2 hours of build? It made me think, read about it, and even write this review. I guess that means it did something right.

This story slowly unfolds it‘s beauty, as Wim Wenders tells it in a weirdly mystic way, climaxing in a unpredictable and touching moment with incredible acting by the starring actors.
