Opus

They never circled back to the whole bush shaving thing

Hard to rate, hard to review. I don't think I've ever seen a cult story like this before. Apart from the music, eeriness, and acting, all of which were done brilliantly with a wild amount of enigmatic tension, nothing stood out like the premise. It knows you're expecting the traditional 'escape' style narrative, so seeing certain things play out weirdly felt...weird. Most of the negative reviews seem to miss the sinister conversation 'Opus' calls for. The director wants us, like Ayo, to question what makes a cult. Who? Why? How? Whether it be moderate or extreme, cult behaviour has always been mainstream..."Teach them young and the world will be yours".

"Teach them young and the world will be yours".♡
Terrible from start to finish. The film tried desperately to be something it's simply isn't, not even close.
And none of its elements helped make it even remotely decent. The story was so weak and hollow and pretty much lacked-

i just became a bean bag hater

this was much better than i ever expected. john malkovich is a joy on screen and UNBELIEVABLY talented. great shots and music and so shocking at points!

Honestly, I don’t even know with this one. Like I think it was entertaining and Ayo Edebiri was great, and there’s some semi-interesting concepts here. But the ideas in this movie never really reach their potential. It honestly feels like someone just took a bunch of A24 movies and stuck them in a blender to make this thing. Not great, but I do feel like a more realized and flushed out version of this could’ve gone hard though.
