One Piece: The Movie

Idk - Uhh
Nostalgic asf (especially after catching up to the anime), gave me the old pre time-skip vibe. No complaints on animation or storyline as it was perfect for its time era. However it’s only 50min so it kinda felt rushed, so it wasn’t able to go the depth that op has

i love the old school animation so much :( it’s so nostalgic and charming especially with the straw hats only having 4 members at this point, it’s a very short and bittersweet story and it’s really cute and funny, there’s so many good luffy faces in here too

As a One Piece film this was fine, but take yourself back to 2000, the series is still new, the fanbase is dim, nothing is fleshed out yet, take all of that into consideration and this is still just fine. Very simple, forgettable villains, and a significant lack of things to do for half of the cast which is laughable considering it’s just the core four. Luffy does do a lot of cool things here though which made up for a lot of the early pacing issues, some of his best pre Gear 2 combat. Good to pay respect but this is best left in the past as much better stories from this series have been told by this point. 2.5/5
