Unwatchable I was scummed by overhyped promotional material, ruined Christmas and traumatized 🥸😖

Really dk why the internet’s heralding this as a horny vampire dark romance. Like what? This movie serves as an allegory for sexual abuse, pedophilia, and the shame that follows victims and lingers. I came into it blind so I was expecting the former just to be left very disturbed (which obv was the point). But seeing the response to this movie is just…. You guys scare me 😅

That was the worst movie I’ve watched in my life. Kept falling asleep in theaters and waking up to random moaning from lily rose Depps big ass forehead. Why did they put a mustache on him? You could barely see him to begin with. They make movies entirely too dark at this point.

If you liked Robert Eggers’s Lighthouse than you might enjoy this. However, if you’re a normal person, someone with hopes and dreams, someone with common sense, someone with a sense of purpose, someone with family and friens you’ll absolutely hate this movie. Absolutely terrible.

9.2 - HELL yeah. This is dark & disgusting, & also alluring & beautiful. And, like the town of Wisborg felt its villain descending, you absolutely feel its size & weight from the first moment.

Probably the best ensemble performance of the year. Lily-Rose Depp needs an Oscar nomination guarantee, today. And every other member of the major cast nailed their roles - Willem Dafoe, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bill Skarsgard and honestly most of the rest of the cast all hit absolute grand slams. Beyond that - the way the story transitions, the sound design & cinematography really emphasizing the darkness, building it almost into its own character, the signature Eggers attention to detail, THE RATS - it all works incredibly well. The only real complaint I have (other than the absurd start time) is how the score could sometimes get lost to the rest of the sound when it should have been the key emotional driver in my mind. It’s probably Eggers’s masterpiece so far, but I desperately owe his entire catalog a rewatch.

UPDATE: Just finished round two in under 12 hours. I don’t know if it pushes it any further, but it solidifies my initial reaction.

Dark, oppressive, visceral, seductive, & beautiful. A visual masterpiece and an incredibly fresh take from one of this generations’ best directors. One of 2024’s best.

Nosferatu is about a 1000 year old vampire with no sexual discipline or rizz. He was not gonna let some chopped dude named Thomas take his fine shyt. Slow at times but the acting was great and had some good jump scares. I loved when Nosferatu’s alarm was vamp anthem 6.7/10

Very few films come along that are a visceral experience from beginning to end. This film is oozing with dreadfully grotesque imagery, but is hypnotic in the way it doles out its horrors. Rvery facet of this film is fine tuned to a degree of near perfection!

Eggers evidently is a folklore master within filmmaking. The number of details and amount of passion is unholy. Blood-soaked and broody atmospheres revitalised with evocative cinematography, engulfing sound design, and completely committed performances. Was Skarsgård even in this? Wardrobe/makeup was impeccable. The direction in the script, story, symbolism, and score glides in and out of stage play and silent era. It impales vulnerability and the concept of evil with lighting and fairytale adage. Every character's source of fear overshadows them both literally and metaphorically. There's relevant purpose behind every 'weird' scene, realising only some makes me think it'll be better on rewatch.

This was actually the worst fucking movie I’ve ever watched. This was a fetish snuff film. Not scary in any way and had no fucking plot. The plot holes were filled by necrophelia, rape and 2000 actor rats. This should not be in theaters.

I WANTED TO LIKE/LOVE IT SO BADLY but i was weirdly bored most of the time. thought i would love the cinematography (hence the cinema trip) but it was ok. really enjoyed the music and lily, nicholas (especially him) and willem’s acting tho. aaron’s acting in this was a bit…bad.

let us rejoice in willem dafoe who was the only redeemable part of this movie

ive got the same opinion as on midsommar the pictures were amazing, the acting too but the start was bit too slow and as @johnkofl said the main vampire didn’t have enough aura, a bit of backstory on him would be nice

is it that hard to make a HORROR movie about a HORROR ICON where the villain actually reigns terror on people and is badass throughout the whole movie instead of boring talking and set up for nosferatu to do NOTHING. 💀 holy crap. Pointless. plus the transitions were so shitty

torn between like and meh. i wanted to like it so much more, but wasn’t buried in the story like i thought i’d be. however, after reading others’ reviews and learning a little more about the nosferatus that came before, the allegories this film retains are a lot clearer than they were during my viewing. particularly the repression of female sexuality and, as one brilliant review stated, ‘the shame that follows victims.’ the latter is abundantly evident throughout the entirety, and lily rose depp does an extraordinary job portraying ellen hutter, a woman who has “done no ill but heed her nature,” yet is continuously met only with rejection and constraint caused by confusion and despair in those around her. although, not from professor franz; willem dafoe brought such comfort to that character, even in his deceptive moments. as for the depiction of repression of female sexuality… well some of the reviews here reflect exactly that same fear and discomfort of experiencing women indulging in equal pleasures of men, and that’s disappointing but not at all surprising. she was moaning. get over it, and don’t watch with family?

my eyes and ears really enjoyed the acting from everyone, the cinematography/editing, the enchanting costumes, and the set/lighting. how the image of nosferatu comes more and more into the light as the movie progresses is wonderful. (but the sun being his final blow was a bit cliche and obvious?) bill skarsgård was genuinely unrecognizable in this. i had to look it up 3 times to make sure i was seeing his name correctly. absolutely insane cosmetics.

undeniably deserved the oscar nominations, but i can also understand why it was a bit overlooked in the selection process. the stunning script (“does evil come from within us, or from beyond?”😩) and powerful performances slightly overshadow the story and lost me here and there. the score wasn’t engaging and some minor characters seemed half-heartedly developed. it’s an ok horror movie that i believe could’ve been enhanced with a stronger focus on ellen’s efforts to free and empower herself sooner (and of course with a more satisfying ending😔) 6.5/10

What the actual f- was that? As someone with an appreciation for gothic horror, I genuinely wanted to walk out of the theatre. It was gross just for the sake of being gross. I felt like I was watching some sick necrophiliac porno. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.
