I expected practical effects, but the shift to a fully CGI villain gave it a chaotic vibe.
What Worked:
Dedicating half the $3.6M budget to DNEG for a CGI monster paid off with an unsettling presence. Shooting on location gives the folklore a super grounded texture. Weaving actual regional lore into the origin story adds cultural depth over cheap jump scares.
The Cuts:
Bouncing the spirit between a goat, the love interest, and the uncle meant the middle part really dragged for me. Through my faith and flag lens, the human sacrifice and demonic possession pushed way too far into the dark occult. The ambiguous ending just forced in universe cameos, leaving me without a satisfying victory.
Verdict:
Expands the universe but gets bogged down by repetitive plots and super dark occult themes.
Favorite Line: “You can bury the past, but the roots remain.”

It was okish but I never understood the point of that Taras song.
