Loving the villain origin stories that have been coming out these past years. They weren’t all born wicked!

Unexpectedly really really good. Worth watching it, because not only Mufasa gets a cool origin story, but also Scar.

Worst double feature of my life. Going from the amazing Sonic 3 to this uninspired, creatively bankrupt garbage was a travesty.

Loved it. Disney needs to get the hint that good new stories are where it’s at. Stop making the same live action remakes. New is good. Not sure why they were in the middle of Africa and got sick of animating the Savana and went straight to blizzard mountain.

6.8 - I tried so hard to keep my hopes up - new story, accomplished director - but maybe I was a little too high. It’s not bad but I’m ever so slightly disappointed. It filled in some fun lore about how this “family” came together, & little fun details like Rafiki’s stick & pride rock’s creation, but structurally it was almost exactly another re-do of The Lion King. The parallels are too many to ignore, & that frustrated me a bit.

The animation & world building is again incredible, & the voice choices are less of a distraction this time. The songs are a very mixed bag (sorry I disagree on the broth-a song, I never need to hear that again). But it again felt so soulless. Every time it felt like Barry Jenkins wanted to push the envelope & get “real” with the characters & story, there was a goofy (& unnecessary) Timon & Pumbaa interruption, a forced joke, or an awkward jab at Disney itself. I know the primary audience is children but it felt afraid to fully commit to any theme that would be intended for anyone over 5.

Overall, I couldn’t stop thinking that despite its beauty, this should have been another animated movie. Not only might have broken Disney’s cold streak but it might have actually been able to fully commit to some of its choices & themes.

Can’t believe they did my boy scar dirty like that, such a wack way to become a villain, really let me down :( AND HE NAMES HIMSELF!??? What type of shit is that😭 emo and cringe.

A few tweaks with the character arcs and I would have given this a 7 instead of a 6/10. At least it's an improvement from the 5 I gave its predecessor. If the 2019 visual effects were stunning, then I have no words for these. The colouring, motion capture, animation, cinematography, and camera movements all feel a lot more fluid and raw. I genuinely started believing they hired musically gifted talking lions. As for the voice acting, I have almost zero complaints, but I'm glad they mentioned James Earl Jones in the title card rather than just the credits. The pacing isn't perfect, but the songs are better. All in all, it's a decent family watch.

Terrible songs, and dialogues so stiff I couldn't believe it. Good graphics, and overall a good story (of course thanks to the original movie), even though the Scar plotline doesn't make sense that much to me. As I said, terrible songs, neither catchy nor emotional.

The absolute waste of Scar’s character was insane. The way Sarabi had no personality kills me and the cuts to Kiara were so wasteful. Honestly just one more bad prequel/sequel from Disney

A film that does justice to its predecessor in more ways than one.

This film definitely exceeded my expectations despite being high enough to begin with.

The animation in this film looked amazing, the score and soundtrack were incredible and the action was superb.

The parallels to The Lion King are far too many, the story just feels too familiar. The middle certainly dragged and felt quite forgettable. More effort should’ve been put into this film. Only redeemable quality for me was the world building.
