Actually, cut the fucking cameras. WHAT THE HELL. I signed up for a horror movie, not an emotionally devastating, gut-punching experience that was going to leave me feeling like this. 🫂 I was genuinely not prepared.

I feel so incredibly bad for Jack. Having siblings myself, I can’t even begin to imagine the amount of guilt, grief, and responsibility he must have carried, especially knowing what he was trying to protect them from. And his siblings being played by Mia Goth and Charlie Heaton??? Bro, this entire family is just tragic. 😭

I also think the movie does a pretty great job of distracting you from figuring out what’s actually happening. It gives you just enough to keep questioning things without making the eventual reveal feel completely out of nowhere. The acting was phenomenal across the board, and despite the relatively short amount of time we get to spend with these characters, they become genuinely lovable. You grow attached to their little family dynamic, which makes everything that much harder to stomach once you realize the truth.

Also, I saw someone comment on the possibility that Sam was actually Jane’s child with their father as a result of the sexual abuse, particularly because of the mother’s line about Jane being Sam’s mother as “it was meant”. HELLO??? Absolutely fucking not. 😭 That would make an already horrific situation so much more disturbing. Although, the significant age difference between Sam and the other siblings does make you wonder. Either way, what a genuinely fucked-up possibility.

I went into this expecting to be scared, and instead I left feeling absolutely heartbroken. The reveal that they’re actually dead is already devastating, but knowing what Jack has been carrying throughout the entire movie makes it so much worse. I just feel so bad for him.
