Ma Rainey's Black Bottom
Viola Davis is incredible as always! Chadwick Boseman is also an amazing actor and the movie relied completely on his performance. the movie was almost ALL dialogue. pacing is a little weird times. i read the play before so i knew the plot, but i liked the movie more as it had

Oh so you thought it was *only* about music... (talk to self). 1 hour and a half of slaps in the face. Chadwick was excellent.

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom
What an interesting film. I love Ma so much, I think she’s Viola Davis’s best role to date, but it’s a shame that she’s only in the movie for 26 minutes, because Ma is a great character who doesn’t tolerate any nonsense. Great film, definitely worth your time.

I wanted to like it. The acting was amazing. Maybe it was the format? I’d love to see the play but just wasn’t fully engaged with the film.
