Love of Your Life
Modernist slop with Covid fake news. Anti-Salazar propaganda. This movie is disgusting. But the resolution is unintentionally conservative.

Love of Your Life
6.7/10 very raw look into grief and how people change because of it. Good cast, however there just wasn’t enough in here to get me hooked. I diddnt not like it but I just couldn’t get too much into it

Very raw emotion and great chemistry and acting. The conversations surrounding grief were really well written. The timing of the movie was a bit slow at some points and the covid presence really threw me. But overall, not bad. I recommend if someone likes a dialogue heavy movies.

I’ve actually been really excited for this one since I randomly caught the trailer on social media somewhere, I was in a weird awe of the cast - not big, big names, but a bunch of really good, young actors in a seemingly earnest romance drama that we don’t really get anymore.
It’s all too easy nowadays to bash out a romcom with an easygoing, lighthearted romance story. I think there’s a challenge in grounding this kinda thing and not making it whimsical and unbelievable. The trick in the Love of Your Life is using grief to harness the exploration of love and feelings - and better yet giving the actors, and their characters, the space and time to explore the ever-changing depth of emotions as you go through life. It is still pretty whimsical and breezy with certain elements, but the film makes it pretty easy to surrender to all that and go along for the ride, and to experience all it wants to say and do.
I believe this is actually Margaret Qualley’s best bit of work to date. It’s not overly flashy, it’s actually pretty quiet and reserved - but there’s a realness to it that’s remarkably admirable. Wasn’t sure on Gabriel Basso at first, but I slowly warmed to him, at the same rate that Maya appeared to - perhaps a choice? Really impressed with Aaron Pierre, dude is seriously making a name for himself - fantastic in Lanterns and fantastic here, oozes charisma and charm in a way that cinema is yearning for.
It’s all beautifully shot, with some fantastic locations that made me wanna book a flight to Portugal ASAP, even better with the colour grade it’s given where it all, almost feels like a dream - lovely stuff, I think this will do really well!

It was so sad but so good 😭 I loved how it ended with the flashback of him saying about listening to all the small background things in the world, and her taking off the Walkman and it representing her being back in the present world again ❤️

Didn’t stop violently sobbing for over an hour after this. Cried through the whole film. Brilliantly performed, true-to-life story about the different forms love takes and healing from grief. Made me relive every feeling I felt losing family. Very lucky to have seen in theatres.

i wanted so bad to shed the tears all the socials told I will have, but unfortunately, I only felt a deep sense of sadness and longing within her love story. only not enough to cry and have my heart broken like I expected and wished so bad.

I just love Margaret Qualley, I often think she’s so underrated. I felt every raw emotion in this movie and the grieving was so well portrayed. Great performance from all the actors, it just felt soooo real, everything.

I understood her grief, but it didn’t excuse how self absorbed she became. She wasn’t the only one mourning, yet others still showed her patience and care. Her constant self sabotage and refusal to let herself love or be loved made it hard for me to sympathize.
