One of the best George Clooney performances. This, Michael Clayton, and Oceans 11. My god Adam Sandler was incredible!

Mediocre Oscar bait, but I didn't hate it. I think what I loved most about this was the biopic feel it had, centring on Clooney. A successful, handsome movie star, played by a successful, handsome movie star, but it's the relatability that really makes it believable. Aside from being privileged and rich, of course, the issues surrounding life, death, family, and suffering tickled my emotions just enough.

It’s beautifully shot, staged like a play going through time and space elegantly. The final line delivery was done perfectly.
I’m not surprised people didn’t like it and sees it as a self pitying piece. The film even jokes about it when they realized they’re giving tribute awards to two white men lmao. However I actually find this film very endearing. It treated it’s subject with respect without avoiding the nuanced and complicated nature of all of this. Jay Kelly didn’t walk away with a happy ending. People are passing by. Time is passing by. His daughters are healing and going for their own lives without this mess of an awful dad. He’s questioning if all of this is worth it. All of this are presented in this film and I feel like people are missing out if you only see the most surface level of “oh this is just another film about a white dude with midlife crisis.”
This film reminded me of Blue Moon, which is also about the only person standing still, not moving at all, having had their days of glory, and couldn’t do anything as time passes through them. That sense of the entire world fleeting is horrifyingly universal, and this film, Jay Kelly, presents it perfectly.
