9.1 - I attended the AMC Best Picture Nominee Marathon on 2/22 & this was the opener, & holy hell what a way to start.

I was completely blind headed in, outside of knowing this was set in Brazil. The emotional rug pull shifting from the happy, almost idyllic, family pictured in the opening scenes to the suspense & emotional stress of the rest of the story is still hanging with me.

Fernanda Torres is incredible, delivering an extremely stirring performance and owning every moment of her screen time, while hardly saying a word. While I don’t anticipate it, I wouldn’t be upset by her pulling in the Oscar’s Best Actress award one bit.

Otherwise, the story is gripping. The rest of the ensemble deliver moving performances as well, which is impressive for the number of children involved. And the way it is shot & edited conveys the both the time period & the intimacy of the family angle of the story well.

All in all, a very moving piece.

Não atoa é o primeiro filme brasileiro indicado a categoria de melhor filme no Oscar… pra não esquecermos do passado do nosso país e da importância do cinema brasileiro

Ainda estou aqui é um filme duro e necessário, comovente e poderoso, uma das poucas experiências que tive de estar em uma sessão lotada e a sala permanecer em silêncio absoluto, acompanhando a história. Fernanda Torres brilha, a fotografia a ambientação excelentes... Nota 10

Absolutely fantastic and so riveting. The performance by Torres is like none I have ever seen before. I really feel like this is a masterpiece through and through.

Stunning cinematography and such an evocative score. I loved every moment.

One of the most important films of last year and one of the most devastating films I’ve ever seen. Fernanda Torres is incredible and the ending was so emotional. Phenomenal movie.

I loved seeing the connection the father had with the family. It’s such a sad story. I felt like the movie dragged on a little towards the end.

Filme forte, uma obra de arte sobre um dos momentos mais sombrios do Brasil. Pontual para que nunca seja esquecida e impeça a volta de movimentos antidemocráticos.

Na verdade eu não gosto muito desse não, no incio era legal e tals, mas sla... ele é bem parado e começa a ficar confuso, mesmo assim coloquei q amo pq ele é do Brasil né.

I didn't believe the amount of compliments paid to Fernanda Torres and Walter, but I can say now that they were totally deserved.
The silences in this movie speak so much to the viewer.

worthy of a winning oscar - not only tells us a beautiful (sad) story but also teaches us the importance of history and the importance of not being ignorant when it comes to politics - we can’t take for granted what people fought so hard to get rid of.

The ending gave me chills.
