How to Make a Killing
How to Make a Killing(?) A decent one-off, but ultimately forgettable. I didn't know what to expect, and I don't know what I got. Too plain to be action, too blunt to be a thriller, too rushed to be a romance, too random to be a mystery, and too unfunny to be a comedy. That said, the script does have a bit of it all, but without much solidity. There's chemistry in the casting, satire in the script, and engagement in the story. It lost me in the ending before the ending, and then the ending brought me back. I make it convoluted because that's exactly how I feel.

How to Make a Killing had a pretty interesting concept with crime and family drama mixed together, but it doesn’t fully deliver. The pacing feels a bit slow, and it never gets as intense or crazy as you expect. There are some solid moments.

How to Make A Killing is a film that it just fun to watch. It’s not something really that unique, it’s not making huge new strides in cinema but it’s just fun and that’s ok. Glen Powell knows how to make someone smile and enjoy themselves while watching a film.

It really lives up to its name, How to Make a Killing.
Didn’t enjoy it much. Predictable, angering, but fun for what it is.

I’m starting to think they make better trailers than films at this point.
How to Make a Killing gives us nothing to connect to and no real reason to care about any of it. What it does show is how a person can talk themselves out of their own conscience, one choice at a time, until that voice gets so quiet that it disappears. And there’s something both confusing and darkly funny about someone who believes they’re the rightful owner of wealth they never earned themselves. The film’s closing lines captures it better than anything else in it does.

This was really fun!!
I don’t think he’s the next great male lead or anything too crazy but I have throughly enjoyed everything I’ve seen with Glen Powell in it and I hope he keeps picking the type of roles he does. At this point if he’s in it I’ll prob check it out at least 👌🏾

9/10 Enjoyable story, cast, great narration, as the sayings goods “what goes around comes around” couldn’t be more true with this story. Recommend.

Ending and ending song saved it for me (kinda). And in a perfect world, maybe it could have ended differently…
Yes.
And in a perfect world, we do not live.
Not a perfect film, but beautifully executed and great message.
Knew all along that Julia’s a sociopath.

Saw this at a secret cinema and had no idea what I was in for but it was a delight! Not the biggest Glen Powell fan but he fit this role well. A twisted comedy with some insufferable yet hilarious characters and true laugh out loud moments. Just absurd enough

Honestly not half bad. Nothing crazy but it’s got a simple and fun premise and it’s pretty well directed. It’s well paced and delivers on what you’re there to see. Glenn Powell does a good job 👍

The “it’s not over yet, now it is, haha fooled you it’s still not” gimmick is exhausting. if it had ended earlier i’d have at least liked it. it’s insane to me that this is an entire movie, it’d be impossible to say I loved it because theres not enough to love. I thought i would no matter what with Jessica Henwick and Margaret Qualley but even they were a disappointment just because of them not doing anything interesting.

An entertaining film with great pacing.
This was a good film with a fun story, great cast, and funny comedic moments. I saw it more than a week early in a screening for Odeon Limitless members. It’s always great when they do that. Glenn Powell was great.

7.1 - Not bad but incredibly underwhelming.
I had high hopes. I liked John Patton Ford’s Emily the Criminal, & expected that with a bigger budget & stacked cast, he could have done a lot more.
Glenn Powell is not bad, but he’s improperly cast. This role needed a Chris Evans’s Ransom Drysdale type mix of charm & sleeze, & Powell only captures a little bit of the former & almost none of the latter. I think Powell just shines best in either high-octane action or well written support roles. I’m still holding out hope for his signature lead performance to come soon though.
Other than Powell, Margaret Qualley was criminally underused. And Bill Camp’s five minute intro with Powell contained some of the most emotionally real moments of the film & then he was almost never actually heard from again. Zach Woods & Topher Grace absolutely killed their individual roles though, & the humor in their scenes was probably enough to elevate this a few whole points.
Story wise, it’s a pretty familiar though not overwhelmingly cookie cutter eat the rich story, but it could have been trimmed a bit. All in, it was a decent (birthday!) trip to the movies (& kicked the hell out of last year’s birthday watch (Emilia Perez)) but there’s pretty much no desire for me to revisit this any time soon.

Was this a bit all over the place? Sure. But it’s quite the simple concept and honestly makes for a decent story. It could’ve benefited from a more artistic approach, and perhaps something more intense to enhance and clarify the message. Glen Powell is a good lead and Margaret Qualley did the best she could with the material she was given. If there is a standout, it’s Jessica Henwick. Overall, not bad as it is.

Margaret Qualley and Glen Powell always deliver. This film was so fun to watch. Nothing unique but it’s a breath of fresh air with a twisted comedy and a great pace. It serves the “eat the rich” energy we wanted. Morally grey? Yes. Did I enjoy every second of it? Absolutely.
