Hawaiian Vacation
Rated: 7.5/10 ⭐️
I expected a cash-grab short, but the creative, wholesome team effort from the toys totally won me over.
What Worked:
Rydstrom’s blocking of the “indoor Hawaii” using bedroom props gives the set a creative, DIY theatricality. Through my Methodist faith lens, seeing the gang step up to serve Ken and Barbie reminds me that true grace brings joy to others. Mothersbaugh’s score also seamlessly switches from snowy reality to tropical rhythms, keeping the energy vibrant.
The Cuts:
The narrative flow feels rushed trying to squeeze in every single toy cameo, so the main joke doesn’t really get to breathe. Keeping it spoiler-free, the “dumb Ken” trope gets repetitive and one-dimensional. Plus, the transition into the ending gag feels abrupt, cutting the romantic payoff short for a final punchline.
Verdict:
A sweet mini-adventure capturing the franchise’s heart. Perfect for wholesome laughs, but skip if you need deep character arcs.
Favorite Line: “You know, this is the most beautiful sunset I’ve ever seen.”

I loved toy story so the fact they still make mini movies, is a blessing
