idk why it bothered me that they took so many imaginative liberties with historical events bc i usually eat that ish up. maybe bc Cathy Parr was a badass feminist ahead of her time irl and they could’ve done a great movie based only on what we actually know but whatever ig 🙄

Absolutely in awe of the costume design. It had some beautiful cinematography & performances. However this movie dragged and lacked an exciting plot. With real historical characters living through fictional events, they could have made it more interesting.

Firebrand is a dark historical drama starring Alicia Vikander and Jude Law. Vikander shines as Katherine Parr, while Law’s intense portrayal of Henry VIII steals scenes. The film looks stunning but moves slowly and can feel dull at times.

Extremely historically inaccurate, but a very enjoyable moving. The acting, costumes, and sets were wonderful. If the climax/ending were different I could see myself loving this movie.

I think people forget that movie-making is an art form. It can be whatever the artist intends it to mean, like it or not. I'm glad this begins by telling us it's a fictional retelling. I wanted to compare the 'true' version to this, and yes the story gets bold but it doesn't stray away from what these historical figures represent. Law and Vikander both carried and delivered the depth the story needed. I was stunned by the cinematography and casting, and the score/costumes took it to another realm, all I could see were Tudor paintings. From a hardcore history nerd, this hit the spot and I want one for each wife.

Not perfectly accurate but an entertaining retelling. Its accurate enough that i dont have issue with it. Would reccomend

Takes a revisionist approach to the historical genre and provides a fresh perspective on Henry the 8th. Jude Law is great in this, he’s nearly unrecognizable. And also a great, subtle performance from Alicia Vikander.

Great acting with a slow pace but still emotionally hollow. Doesn’t offer much insight into the protagonists’ character, the reasons behind her intentions, or why the audience should care.
