I hate Jessie

loved how they added the photographs from the journalists in the big scenes, that truly was immersive. cinematography, color pallet, shot composition was so fucking good. those silent moments made it way more intense. i really wanted more plot, but another solid A24 film. 9 / 10

9.2 - hell yeah. Expectations blown away. It’s ripping pace, incredible sound design, & tight camera work create incredible tension start to finish. It’s well acted across the entire cast, & I really enjoyed the unique POV even though I disagree it doesn’t take a stand or a side.

I liked it (I think anyway) but its very disturbing and I cant imagine ever rewatching it really. I had thought it would be more into the political aspects but it’s more a look at the horrors/depravity of humanity that happen around the world with civil war/unrest.

The premise of this movie was good but honestly I felt it was a mess. Worth a watch if you got nothing else

basically the spiderman lady is a chad journalist, a hero to the youngster girl. after meeting the youngster though, spiderman lady starts losing her power, and the youngster eventually replaces spiderman lady. it illustrates the changing of eras, how nature abhors a vacuum, etc

Although it has a great start, and it has its peak moment, but throughtout the film I was really bored until the final act. Then I started enjoying it, but, all of a sudden, disappointment after disappointment. I’ve wanted so badly to be a good film, but it wasn’t as expected.

Incredible. The photography and cinematography was purely incredible. The plot was slow but extremely raw. A lot of people want more backstory, but we weren't asked to choose a side. We were asked to be witnesses, like the journalists. If you want a backstory, then switch on your tv. A million and one reasons will flood over you. The acting was atrociously good, and to pair us up with such a different cast was genius. The score and sfx was heart-beat skipping, and the vfx, locations, and editing was breathe-takingly beautiful.

what a purely powerful movie. truly shows what’s going on behind the things you see in the media, and how damaging war is to everyone. the cinematography is simply beautiful, so well thought out. the movie is supposed to be stark, nothing is glorified in war, chaos and suffering.

Civil war is a FANTASTIC movie, the cinematography is unique and clever, using the photos taken to show parts of the story. The story is terrifying look at a scarily realistic near future. Kirsten Dunst is fantastic along with her supporting cast. Overall, solid 9/10

They created a strong world with interesting world building but this story is solely focused on a journalists story. I personally would have liked a stronger narrative conflict and more story in general. But it does succeed at the story that it is telling. And there are some truly impressive scenes filled with tension in the later half of the movie. But it takes time to get there.

hey stef and jen, this movie was so bad its inspired me to share my first queue review. i thought it had potential but characters were unlikeable and boring - lots of scenes in the beginning of just fuckin sitting around. the acting was piss poor, was entire opposite of immersed

I was afraid it would be full of American stereotypes and army propaganda, but it surprised me in a good way. It exceeded my expectations and felt genuine.

A unique perspective on a world that I need to know more about. The music, cinematography and acting were all top notch. Jesse Plemons is as terrifying as ever. A prequel would be awesome!

Subtlety has died, this film killed it. I think the marketing had actually killed this film. I wanted to like this as a fan of Alex Garland but he really is so inconsistent with this film. Some scenes are shot amazingly and others look like it was shot on an android.

Very well done. A new and fresh take on a war movie, i enjoyed it a lot.

This was way more boring than I expected, even after reading reviews that plenty of people found it boring. No one is likable, there’s no context around the war, it’s just a bunch of mini conflicts happening from location to location that our band of misfits encounter

And I couldn’t get over the fact that one guy is a Pedro Pascal dupe, really took me out of the moment a few times lol

Escapes the dreaded “dislike” because of some good action sequences but overall I’d classify this movie as not good
