Child's Play 2 Reviews

I actually enjoyed Child’s Play 2 more than the original. That’s not to say it’s a perfect sequel — Like the first child play it takes a long time to build the plot—not nearly as much but enough that you begin to feel like the plot development has overstayed its welcome.

That said, the new characters really help elevate the film. I liked the addition of the foster mom, who was genuinely sweet and trying her best. Kyle, the older foster sister, was a standout for me — she wasn’t written as the typical cruel older sibling figure. Instead, she actually cares about Andy and protects him. The actress does a great job capturing that mix of resilience and quiet sadness that comes from growing up in the foster system. You can really feel how much she relates to Andy, and that connection gives the movie more emotional depth than you’d expect from a killer doll flick.

Speaking of Andy — he’s just so adorable. Seriously, omg, he doesn’t deserve any of this chaos. You can’t help but feel bad for him every step of the way.

One moment I thought was surprisingly clever was how Chucky’s buried doll body gets revealed to Kyle. At first I was like, Why would he bury it under the swing? But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense — burying something under freshly turned earth is easier than digging into untouched ground. It’s a small detail, but it shows thought went into it.

Now, I do have to complain about one thing — the endings. Like, I get it’s the early ‘90s and horror loved to drag out its finales, but how many fake-out deaths does Chucky need? It stops being scary and just becomes tedious. After the third or fourth “he’s back!” moment, I’m just waiting for the credits to roll already. It kills the tension rather than building it.

Still, overall, Child’s Play 2 is a solid horror sequel. It’s creepier, more stylish, and a bit more fun than the first, with a better supporting cast and a more emotional core. I’m excited to see where the series goes next.
