8/10 it was rly good movie but woulda rated higher if it was scarier

I think this film works a lot better if you don’t know the plot going in.

The pivot is pretty sharp and I think pretty effective if you didn’t know the “real” plot. After that reveal though, the film ponders around a bit too blasé and actually manages to get a bit boring. Common sense also takes a bit of a dip the further you go into it, as with typical horror genre fashion - which always frustrates me.

Renée Zellweger does a fine job, a lot of the film’s weight lies on her and she carries it well. Very weird to hear her actual accent opposed to her British, Bridget Jones one. Ian McShane is also pretty tremendous, a very underrated actor that deserves more roles.

Good little spooky watch, nothing groundbreaking but plenty enjoyable in that eery kinda way.
