i understand its a david lynch film, but these types of films really dont sit well with me. they just threw away the ear plot not even a third of the way into the movie. rape scenes are too much for me in any movie. it was my main problem with A Clockwork Orange as well

Blue Velvet

Probably didn’t get a lot of it since this is my first Lynch film, but I really did not like this at all and thought most of the performances were terrible :/

I think I’ll need a rewatch, but overall I loved the metaphors Lynch uses in Blue Velvet — you can see many of them later in Twin Peaks. He was truly a mastermind. 🌹💙

Ashamed to say this is my first David Lynch watch. Honestly I was pretty anxious to make a start on his filmography, mostly due to the legendary status he holds in cinema. It was a subconscious prolonging, but today I finally made the jump.

I wasn’t disappointed. Blue Velvet was absolutely magnetic - disturbing, sure, but stunning nonetheless. Everything about it was compelling; the script is incredible, with dialogue that flows and intertwines with the framing to keep you locked in. The score was beautiful - eerie at times, but primarily almost romantic.

Kyle Maclachlan clearly just gets Lynch’s writing. His performance feels so incredibly natural, so it’s no wonder they collaborated so often. I loved Laura Dern in this too, along with Rossellini; they brought such a rawness to the film. Portraying two very different woman that drew out entirely different side of Jeffery’s lust.

I feel pretty desperate to check out more of Lynch’s work now, but not wanting to binge. I’d rather savour them for the right moments. Really impressed by this.
