it’s HEAVY on dialogue, if you don’t like listening to people talk for the entirety- then this movie isn’t for you. HOWEVER, it’s so raw and captivating. you literally watch two people fall in love. they nail it on the awkward pauses and small glances w/ first meeting someone

oh to be able to articulate your thoughts as well as them. the way they talked about things, the things they talked about, the way they shared their thoughts— it’s all so fascinating. it’s so great. i think i’m going to be thinking about this movie a lot. 27/9/23

One of my favorite romance movies ever😍The slow build up of the main characters connection and physical relationship along with the awkward eye contact avoiding scenes makes it very real to me. Script is 10/10. Leaves you wanting more which lucky for us there are two sequels:)

What a truly lovely piece of film, I’ve been apprehensive to watch this trilogy - being the wondrous things people always say about it, worried I’d be disappointed.

Thankfully, I was not - and I don’t know how you could be. No, there are no plot twists or huge revelations, action, dramatics - or even melodramatics. It’s just sweet and… real - raw, and you’re left feeling jealous that you weren’t the one to experience the journey Jesse and Celine went on together. Dialogue is very philosophical, deep and intimately personal. They of course aren’t real people, but they’re real stories that you can bet your life that they’ve happened to someone that we walk among.

God Ethan Hawke is hot in this, you can’t blame Celine for jumping off that train with this stranger. Both Hawke and Delpy give extraordinary performances, performances that aren’t “showy” but those rare examples where they portray their character so convincingly that you get that ethereal sensation of feeling like a fly on the wall.

Really wasn’t expecting the foreboding “goodbye” to make me emotional - but yet there were tears! I’m really looking forward to Before Sunset - I think it’ll have a hard time topping this one, especially being that I’m not sure there even needs to be a follow-up to this. I’ll be elated to be proven wrong.

amazing movie, truthfully became one of my fav rom-coms. I love movies where nothing really happens, it’s filled with the characters thoughts, aspirations, fears, and heart. The scenery, the sense of inviting us and them into their fantasy love story no matter “the ending”.
