9.3 - I absolutely know this is not going to be for everyone. Some will find it boring. Many will find it painfully unfunny. But the longer I sit with it the deeper it burrows in my brain. And I still can’t pretend I understand most of it. But I think that’s why it works.

The underlining main story is ab moving on from heartbreak and the complications thereof. Which could have been a masterpiece from Wes. However, the story was told in such a boring way that it makes it Wes’ worst movie. It is so painfully hard to watch, but fun to contemplate.

It’s good. Different, but good. Really get the brain thinking. Crazy cast. It’s a Wes Anderson film, should be expected. Not going to be for everyone, but I’d still give it a shot. 6/10

Wes Anderson has his name written all over this. Symmetry everywhere, camera movement and transitions were so good. I loved the set design and the colour palette. Everything just blends itself together so well. Loved the breaking of the fourth wall too, really adds to the story.

Quoting the film itself ‘doesn’t matter if you don’t understand the play [story]’ and that’s what people who don’t enjoy this movie should get. Unlike previous films, this one focuses of the creating of a story, rather than the story itself, and Anderson’s story-creation is godly

Augie Steenbeck: Your concept of time is completely distorted though. I don’t think any of you except Woodrow even understands what fifteen minutes means.
Pandora: Fifteen minutes is sixty-two hundred hours.
Augie Steenbeck: Exactly. That’s not your fault.

Admittedly did not enjoy the approach to this. The style is of course there and is refined to a degree, visual comedy is outstanding. The overly-meta story and presentation was just not something that worked for me. Tom Hanks needs to work with Wes more. 3.5/5
