This was truly a treat to watch.
It is deeply insightful and is packed with meanings, it confuses you for half the movie until the direction it’s going at clears up.
Sebastian Stan who I greatly appreciate has showed me his talent is vastly superior with this one.
Pearson is truly magical and knows how to work around his condition to act with it.
Lastly, cinematography was simple but well made with some interesting shots and stunning colors.
Please try to read into it, this is way more than what it shows in the surface and once you figure out everything in it, you fall in love with it.

8.8 - I don’t know that I really loved this, but the way it’s lingering with me can’t be discounted.
It is getting a lot of comparisons topically to The Substance, & while I had a lot of fun with The Substance, it didn’t pack the punch message wise that this has. The script is one of the smartest of the year. It’s grounded, darkly funny, & shockingly relatable. What lengths will one go to not feel other. What lies will we tell ourselves to cover insecurity. Sebastian Stan & Adam Pearson’s co-acting is some of the best of 2024. It takes a hard turn near the end that I don’t fully like or agree with, but this execution of asking the questions & not giving the answers (if there are any?) is powerful.
I’m a bit depressed, but it was worth it.

such a harrowing and unique watch. i enjoyed the awkward, powerful central performances and had no idea how the existential narrative would play out. i don’t see the humor, but i understand the meaningful message and deep sadness. adam pearson is phenomenal

I didn’t hate this movie, but I didn’t enjoy it. I didn’t laugh once and I thought it dragged on. Everyone in the movie is obnoxious. It’s just a weird movie.

a strange film but with a clear message about identity, insecurities and what you project to society, very good acting of sebastian stan

really funny at times— i liked a lot of the first and second act, third act felt a little rushed and disjointed. certain things i wish they had explained more, but i guess leaving some things up to interpretation seems intentional. probably could’ve been 15 minutes shorter.

I don’t know if this was too high concept for me or something but that was some crazy work. Felt all over the place and random.

Explores how physical appearance influences social interactions and one’s sense of self. It also focuses a lot on art imitating life and the blurred lines between reality and performance. I loved the complex themes and intimate narrative. Just not sure about the ending.

This was super unique and had me invested. Plot, dialogue, acting was all really good. Sebastian Stan was excellent. The commentary and underlying themes of societal norms, fitting in, what makes someone valuable, etc. were interesting. Ending was the worst part as many others have mentioned. Just very abrupt and depressing.
