You can definitely see the inspiration he took from this to make your name The animation is spectacular while I don’t like the fact it’s so short as I believe with maybe 40 more minutes it could have benefited massively 8.4/10 too short to give it any higher but still great 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Okay, I really tried to give this a chance but if I’m being honest it wasn’t that good.
For the very little story there is, its not very developed and is really slow. My biggest issue with it was how there was no resolution.
Only thing that was good was the animation
4/10

It was good and all but ppl grow apart all the time, it’s nothing new. Been there done that!! I don’t understand why she couldn’t put in the same effort n take a train to him🤦🏻♀️ It honestly would have been better as a short film.

This movie is a movie you really have to look at to get. This movie is either something they clicks at the end or clicks on rewatch. For me the theme’s characters the beautiful shots and animation and what the movie means is amazing. For such a short runtime it’s great 9.9./10

Director Makoto Shinkai crafts a visually stunning and emotionally devastating film that captures the quiet, bittersweet ache of a first love shaped and ultimately separated by life's inevitable changes.
Highlights:
• Brilliant Storytelling: The screenplay is a poignant and relatable exploration of loneliness, unspoken feelings, and the passage of time.
• Signature Directorial Style: Makoto Shinkai's direction is a masterclass in creating atmosphere and evoking emotion through visuals alone.
• Stunning Animation: The animation and background art are stunningly realistic and beautiful, creating a world that feels both real and dreamlike.
Criticisms:
• Melancholic Tone: The film's tone is overwhelmingly melancholic and can be quite depressing.
• Passive Characters: The characters can feel passive or emotionally distant at times, making it difficult for some viewers to connect with them.
Overall, 5 Centimeters per Second is a work of art and a landmark of modern animated filmmaking, capturing the bittersweet pain of distance and memory with incredible grace and visual splendor. It's a must-see for anyone who appreciates mature, thoughtful, and emotionally resonant storytelling.

3/10 It was basically just a whole movie of nothingness. I understand the story and I read up on it after but it still just wasn’t good. Just a short movie about two people who liked eachother then ended up being apart and even after a long time they still liked eachother and then they just moved on. There wasn’t really any emotional connection for me and that montage at the end of the movie was kinda random. Idk the whole time of the movie I was just thinking that if they really loved eachother then just go live together it’s not impossible. Also that second part of the move all about the girl that liked him I feel like that just dragged on the movie.

Every time I watch this movie it’s beauty and depth still hits me so hard. The pacing is so slow, but meticulously intentional that you feel Tono and his mental state. An all time favorite of mine that will never not be fantastic
