Okay, I really tried to give this a chance but if I’m being honest it wasn’t that good.
For the very little story there is, its not very developed and is really slow. My biggest issue with it was how there was no resolution.
Only thing that was good was the animation

5 Centimeters per Second is a breathtakingly beautiful and heartbreakingly realistic masterpiece of animation, earning a 7.9/10 rating. Director Makoto Shinkai crafts a visually stunning and emotionally devastating film that captures the quiet, bittersweet ache of a first love shaped and ultimately separated by life's inevitable changes.
Highlights:
• Brilliant Storytelling: The screenplay is a poignant and relatable exploration of loneliness, unspoken feelings, and the passage of time.
• Signature Directorial Style: Makoto Shinkai's direction is a masterclass in creating atmosphere and evoking emotion through visuals alone.
• Stunning Animation: The animation and background art are stunningly realistic and beautiful, creating a world that feels both real and dreamlike.
Criticisms:
• Melancholic Tone: The film's tone is overwhelmingly melancholic and can be quite depressing.
• Passive Characters: The characters can feel passive or emotionally distant at times, making it difficult for some viewers to connect with them.
Overall, 5 Centimeters per Second is a work of art and a landmark of modern animated filmmaking, capturing the bittersweet pain of distance and memory with incredible grace and visual splendor. It's a must-see for anyone who appreciates mature, thoughtful, and emotionally resonant storytelling.

one of the most gorgeous animated films i’ve ever seen. every land scape wide shot looked like a painting from an art gallery. loved the way they made the food look, retro realism art style. too short, the story deserved another hour so things didn’t feel rushed. worth a rewatch

5/10. Cute animation, but the 2nd part of the film felt dragged out to extend the story. Their kiss showed his hope for a new beginning, while she saw it as goodbye, leading him to suffer & her to move on. The ending felt empty & unresolved.
