Stranger Things: Tales from '85

First off the animation is great and the art direction and character/monster designs are nice but the story makes zero sense. With this story taking place between seasons 2 and 3 makes this story meaningless since none of this has any effect on either the characters or the story as a whole. Nicki becoming part of the party makes this even more of an issue since this character at some point should have been mentioned in a post season 3 stranger things episode. The monster they fight also still being a huge threat also makes this point an issue to the story as a whole. The final battle is cool but it once again shows how useless Eleven is in season 5 with the feats she pulls off in this show. My last gripe is some of the characters act completely different from the main show to the point where it makes them feel like completely different characters. This show would have worked way better imo as an anthology series set in this universe that way you can tell these stories while not effecting the main shows story. The writing is fine for the most part but is very clearly geared towards a younger audience with the amount of “Well that just happened” kind of jokes which was an issue with season 5 as well. Overall the season was enjoyable but has some story and writing issues.

I liked Stranger Things. The 1980s setting gave it a really cool vibe, and the mix of mystery, horror, and adventure kept me interested. The characters were fun to follow, and it was an enjoyable series overall.

I couldn’t get into it. I think I’m feeling Strange Things burnout. I’ll revisit in a few years and reassess.
