Steins;Gate
It’s a slow burner for the first 10 episodes, but then picks up to be one of the best shows concerning time travel, my favorite anime series of all time 🥰

I literally just finished this show, and I should really go to bed, but this ending was so good that I need to write my review first. This show was AMAZING. Holy shit. Whenever you have a time travel story, you run the risk of breaking your own rules for convenience, or having a sort of cop-out ending, or just not making sense. This ending did NONE of those things. This was easily one of the best endings of any show I have ever seen — everything is connected to everything else, and it makes for a really, really satisfying experience.
I honestly started watching this show because I love the idea of a time travel story about a sinister secret organization working to take over the world. I didn’t know much else about the show at all, but that was enough to sell me. And, honestly? I kind of forgot this show was about that by the end. This show is about so much more than that simple premise. Because, alongside all the intense, world-ending implications of the plot, it’s such a human story. These characters are incredible, and you care so much for all of them by the end. Especially Okarin, Kurisu, and Mayuri, of course. This show reeled me in with a promise of a dark conspiracy and tricked me into crying my eyes out multiple times.
People say that this show is a slow burn, and that’s absolutely true. The first ten or so episodes aren’t bad by any means, but do a lot of the setup for everything that comes after. They give you time to understand everything going on and get comfortable with all of the characters before pulling the rug out from under you and going wild for the second half of the season. But, to be clear, this is NOT a “I swear it gets good in season 3” situation. These episodes are very good — just be prepared for a major shift.
It may be in part due to the fact that I have to go to bed, but I honestly don’t have all that much more to say. This is one of the most creative, tightly-plotted stories I’ve seen in a minute, and I’m so glad I watched it. HIGHLY recommended to anyone who is looking for a time travel show that actually treats you like someone with a functioning brain. Just be prepared to cry if you’re anything like me.
