Great documentary

Fun to take a look behind the curtain. Such an iconic show that built careers that we cherish. Sounds grueling to make.

Recommend 2 of the 4 episodes: More Cowbell (which is outstanding) and the Writers Room

Beautiful.

I love SNL even though most of my favorites have all left now. Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, Jason Sudeikis, Aidy Bryant, Fred Armisen, Cecily Strong, Kate Mckinnon, Vanessa Bayer, Beck Bennet, Pete Davidson, Mikey Day, Melissa Villaseñor, and a ton more. I couldn't begin to name every host and skit I love because there's just way too many. Unsurprisingly, they're the generation I grew up on, but there's definitely fans for the older and newer members. Some episodes make you want to fold, and some are so good you can't stop smiling, but it's worth the risk every Sunday morning. 50 years is a milestone and this documentary does NOT do it justice. 4 hours of stuff existing fans knew with only a few people we've missed. 1 episode worth of 'beyond' and 3 stuck in 'before'.

I need more eps!

Really fascinating doc series for SNL fans. Ep 1 is about the audition process. Ep 2 follows the writers room for a week during the show Ayo Edebiri hosted last season. That’s a brutal job, being in the writers room. Ep 3 is all about the making of, and impact, of the “More Cowbell” sketch. Ep 4 was about season 11. The season that came a hairs breadth from killing the show. It also covers the “comeback” of the show. Overall, a very well done series. A good reminder that SNL is effectively a 90 minute comedy laboratory. Some things hit. Some things miss. Some make it all the way to dress rehearsal, and get killed hours before air. We’ve seen some gain new life on YouTube after being cut for time in the live airing. (The dress gets recorded so that’s how they can gain new life on YouTube.) Some hit BIG. Such as “More Cowbell”. It’ll be 25 years old in April 2025. And it’s still in the zeitgeist of America. It’s a serious recommendation for any fans of the show or the art of comedy. And this should get me the 1,000 character review badge.
