It's definitely up there as one of the best series of all time. War and action are simply side characters to the intense script and characterisations. A huge positive because when the action and drama reach a certain height, you feel it more than the explicit gore. The acting was phenomenal, as was the set building/locations, cinematography, and score. Anna, Hiroyuki, Fumi, and several others, including the crew, put their heart and soul into this, and its visibly obvious. The special effects, tension, dialogue, genius, emotion, accuracy, and production is some of the best I've ever perceived.

Shogun is my favorite scripted drama of the last 2+ years. I don’t remember the last time I was so engrossed in a show. If you’re into these types of shows (historical, war, factions politicking etc), watch this NOW 🏯

Maybe I’m in the minority, but I thought it started off very strong and got a little less interesting over time. Still a very solid show—I really enjoyed it, even if I didn’t think it was the second coming of GoT

So far so good, I can’t wait until the pace picks up. I am so hoping this keeps us on our toes like Vikings or GOT! Give us another great, well done show! Please!

Easily the best show I’ve seen this year. A single season captured in such haunting beauty with arcs that subvert expectation but contain so much emotion. It feels like a fantasy world but it’s based in real events. I loved this so much and didn’t want it to end.

8.5/10 Visually immersive, well written, well acted epic. Every episode ends with you wanting more. I found the middle of episodes to sometimes be hard to get through because there were so many exposition dumps some good some bad. Thoroughly enjoyed this, sad it ends with 10 eps

This was a beautiful watch on many levels - the acting, the storyline, the depth of the culture at the time, the cinematography. Worth a watch for pure art!

can’t begin to describe how incredibly this show is.
a cinematic masterpiece of japanese culture.
can’t love this show enough. it has everything and more. cinematography is beyond beautiful. the bokeh’s, the film grain, the color pallet, the camera work, the focus pulling, everything was incredible.
one of the best character developments i’ve ever seen. mariko and john blackthorne were absolutely incredible in every way shape and form. storytelling is oscar worthy. can’t believe it’s over.
this show has many heartbreaks, it gave me goosebumps, taught me that we live and we die.
can’t fucking wait for szn 2.

Overly complicated – could’ve been condensed to six parts instead of 10 episodes

i’m not usually a historical fiction kind of girl but this really hit. kinda upset about mariko dying and there not being an epic battle scene though…

Incredible show, the intesnity of the dialogue, the amazing acting and the excting fighting scenes make a show with immense quality. A creative story about cultural differences wrapped in a historical cloak.

It was a great story but my god did it drag. When you think it was about to go down? It went flat. But some moments were really intense. Wish there was more fighting lol
