I expected a cash-grab for Pokémon Day, but was blown away by how faithful this is to the Game Boy games. Pure 90s nostalgia.

The Director’s Eye:
The animation is crisp and dynamic. The gritty framing of the Silph Co. takeover actually gave me fantastic visual inspiration for my upcoming film project. The story aligns perfectly with my traditional values of hard work and merit; Red succeeds through sheer discipline. I loved Giovanni's arc, a corrupt boss humbled by a kid's dedication. Turning 8-bit tracks into orchestral swells is brilliant, and realistic animal growls make battles feel grounded and dangerous.

The Cuts:
Cramming a 40-hour RPG into four 20-minute episodes really ruins the pacing. Skipping huge chunks of the journey left me wanting more. Also, shoehorning “Mega Evolution” into the Mewtwo fight felt like a forced commercial that broke the pure retro vibe.

Verdict:
A phenomenal, no-nonsense love letter to the original games championing hard work. An absolute must-watch.

Favorite Line: "Science is so amazing!"
