Downton Abbey
I love period dramas and wasn't too sure this would hook me in. I was happily proven wrong. I really loved seeing the story unfold from all of the characters' perspectives. Average W for Maggie Smith

Downton Abbey
My friend told me Mary got more likeable, I’m inclined to believe she was lying to me, generally good though. Towards the end I felt like watching it was a chore, at that point everything about it started to annoy me, things could so easily be sorted out if they just talked

Downton Abbey
This was my second time watching Downton Abbey all the way through. I didn’t love it quite as much as the first time, but I think that is normal with a rewatch. Still, what a great series about second chances and the importance of being honest with yourself and others. Julian Fellowes does such a fantastic job building these characters. By the end, you feel like you truly know them, for better or worse.
My feelings toward the characters were a rollercoaster this time around. Edith ended up being my favorite of all. Laura Carmichael’s performance is just so good, especially through her facial expressions. She brought so much depth to Edith’s journey. On the production side, I can’t even imagine the hours that went into all the costumes and sets. Just watching for that level of detail is worth it alone.
I also really loved Barrow’s story arc. There was a lot I personally related to, and by Season 6 I felt so much compassion for him. He became one of the most layered and memorable characters for me. On the flip side, the Bates storyline dragged for me this time. They were given way too much airtime compared to the other servants. I would have loved more development for the rest of the staff instead of circling the same drama with Anna and Bates.
Like many long-running series, some smaller storylines felt underdeveloped or unnecessary. They were included but never explored fully, which made them feel like filler instead of adding to the bigger picture.
One thing that stood out more this time was Lord Crawley. I honestly feel like he is the true villain of the series. His narcissism and inability to step aside or listen made so many situations worse. He frustrated me constantly, and no surprise he ended up with an ulcer.
Overall, Downton Abbey is still such a well-done series. It balances romance, drama, and humor with beautiful production value. Even if this second watch didn’t hit the same highs as my first, it reminded me of how rare it is to find a show that builds characters and a world this rich.
