The characters on this show were genuinely funny and the representation of a well off and successful black family was excellent. The first 4-5 seasons were peak after which the show went slightly down but at that point I just kept watching 😂

I loved the black representation in this show. It made me feel like I was black enough when I felt like I want #BLM. This show uplifts me and I want to show this to my children in the future to show the true power that black people have.#BLM #SAVETHETURTLES

-SEASON 1

Pretty good show, it’s very aware of itself but the characters and humour are pretty good.

-SEASON 2

Consistent and funny as much as the last season, not much to say other than the show is funny, informative, and a comfort show.

-SEASON 3

More of the same, seems like they may be back peddling, a lot of the episodes go the same way Dre has to compare his skin color to others doing any tiny little thing, and then Bow has to mention she’s a doctor at least once an episode.

Overall I do enjoy the show, it seems more parent focused now then kid focused like the first few seasons.

-SEASON 4

Not as good as previous seasons.

Dre is starting to get super annoying, hating on anything Junior does or says or anything, can’t learn from his mistakes because he ends up making the same mistakes every single episode. He acts like a man child a lot because honestly he acts lazy. He makes everyone do stuff for him instead of doing it himself.

How is a whole other situation, she has to mention being a doctor every single or every other episode to the point that you couldn’t forget even if you wanted too.

The kids are still the best part, Junior is probably the one character I have high hopes for because the parents just backtrack consistently now. Also the show has gotten more serious than comedy.

And finally the stupidest storyline that ended up going nowhere, the divorce arc at the end of the season, it wasn’t needed, it was depressing and I’m glad they scrapped it in the final episode.

I doubt the issues I’ve mentioned above aside from the divorce arc are going to change next season but I still have a bit of hope.

-SEASON 5

Better season than the last, but the issues with the previous season still arise here. Dre is a horrible parent, Bow can be too sometimes when she isn’t talking about being a doctor.

Junior had a lot of screen time this season which was good, I liked the arc he was given, especially since I relate to how he is choosing to spend his life.

-SEASON 6

Better than the last but not by much. Comedy has gone a bit stale.

-SEASON 7

Only good parts of this season are Junior and his girlfriend and when they move in together, otherwise this season was pretty dull, lost its touch ages ago unfortunately.

-SEASON 8

Definitely felt like a wrap up season, finally characters are getting full on development while we remember the last 7+ plus seasons.

Weird choices for this season, ending juniors relationship randomly near the end of the season, them moving into a different neighborhood in the end and Dre’s parents moving out and away. But it is a finale so I can let it slide.

Now onto mixed-ish.

-CONCLUSION

Black-ish was definitely made in comparison to modern family or at least I think it wanted to do what it was doing but for people of color which I think they succeeded in doing so very well.

The inconsistency of the show is just how it never truly progresses in the show until the very late seasons, Zoey moves out when “Grown-ish” started but she would randomly appear in random episodes which came inconsistent and sometimes she just stuck out because you’d forget about her.

The characters growing up was a really interesting part to see, see how they change as the show goes which isn’t much except the parents and grand parents.

I recommend this show to any and everyone who just likes a light comedy show and liked how modern family done their show, even if it isn’t the same since it follows one family the show makes up for it with all the kids.

Hopefully the spin off shows can keep up the good consistency…
