Bea is "meh" on
Zoot Suit
3/5⭐️
This musical film is based on the true events of the Sleepy Lagoon murder case in Los Angeles, California, involving Mexican Americans who were accused of being involved. Henry Reyna was accused of being the murderer and the leader of the gang.
I have to admit that some of the songs are quite catchy, which gives the film a lighter atmosphere despite the serious subject matter. What made Zoot Suit innovative was that it was adapted from a musical stage play, with the entire film maintaining that theatrical style.
Another important aspect based on real events is how Mexican Americans were often unfairly accused of vandalism, theft, and riots. Many of them were innocent and were targeted simply because they were Mexican.
Edward James Olmos, who played El Pachuco, was a bit over-the-top in his performance, but he did perform all of the songs in the musical himself.
