A rare type of exploratory film that not only encourages the understanding of something foreign to viewers but showcases the intricacies of what makes that something messy. Religion in film is extremely difficult to convey, the tone is either overly preachy or downright eye rolling with how it portrays the meaning of faith; with Your Mother, faith is central, faith is everything, and faith is beautiful. In an era of religious intolerance it was nice to see the Muslim faith portrayed with such grace, the sense of community, the hope prayer brings, the commitment to it all, it was done in a deliberately kind way that I appreciated. The tender, raw emotional atmosphere of this film never eases, it is a deeply somber film with the story rapidly crescendoing into an all out fight for the survival of one’s family, something anyone can relate to. Despite a fantastic cast, unique sound choices, and an engaging narrative, I found that this did not stick the landing whatsoever. To say the third act jumps the shark feels generous, it got to be a little much for me and while I’m sure it is best left to interpretation I would’ve preferred something more grounded and understandable. I also fully thought this would be more action oriented so don’t go in expecting Blade no matter what the reviews say. Overall this was an excellent film. 4.5/5

your mother your mother your mother has one of the best acting jobs i’ve seen in a while. I look forward to Awards season for Mahershala Ali. One of my criticisms is giancarlo unfortunately. As great as he is as an actor in this movie i don’t think he matched Ali’s performance when they were together. Besides the one car scene, that one was special.

Liled that furry stuff but I don't know if I understood it enough. From what I knew it was about faith and maybe ethnocentrism and hypocrisy but also forgiveness but none of them seemed to connect. It also mentioned porn/sex work but I just don't know what it was going for.

Opening and ending sequences were perfect man. He was just kind of a bad father lol but it represents trying to fill so many roles at once, a tough feat. Worth the watch

I have no words for how amazing this film was. From the cinematography, to the storytelling, and themes, this was great all around. The characters were complex and relatable in many ways. This highlights the complexities of balancing life, faith, family and purpose.

A story attempting to tell too many stories and falling short at all of them. A disappointing climax with cop outs and storylines left unfinished. Good soundtrack though
