Young Frankenstein

This is THE blueprint for modern comedy… running gags, lewd humor, silly characters with unique quirks, and most importantly good writing and cast….. not a remake but a story inspired by an original work. Hope there’s a reset in Hollywood to start making films like the classics 🎞️

Young Frankenstein

Immensely funny Mel Brooks comedy. The sets and style lovingly re-create what James Whale did in 1931 with his ‘Frankenstein’. Gene Wilder is terrific and everyone commits to the bits very well. I still prefer Brooks’ ‘The Producers’ but this was great

“Abby Normal.”

Young Frankenstein is one of finest things to ever come out of Mel Brooks’s catalog, it’s funny, accurate and manages to install successful subplots into an already impressive and complete story.

Not to mention the fact it’s just really funny, however imo I don’t think there’s a standout joke that made me really laugh, thought there were chuckles and giggles about.

1st Act 8.7/10 (Funny, and gives a nice spin on the story.)

2nd Act 8.4/10 (A lack of pacing for like 15 minutes, but I still found the sub plots and story enjoyable.

3rd Act 8.7/10 (A nice way to wrap it up, along with a joke I actually found really funny, that being the on stage performance.)

Plot 9/10 (It’s just the original Frankenstein, but more to it, sure the ending isn’t as good, and there are some scenes from the original Im annoyed got cut, it’s still a damn good adaptation.)

Soundtrack/Score N/A

Acting 8.7/10 (Gotta give major props to Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle for their amazing portrayals of the characters, along with Marty Feltman who was a better Igor than the actual Igor.)

Pacing 8.1/10 (First act is good, then about halfway through the second act it drops off and doesn’t pick back up.)

Cinematography 8.9/10 (Love the way they used shadows while making this, gives an incredible vibe that I don’t see any other movie doing.)

Character Development 8.8/10 (Love the way Fredrick Frankenstein developed.)

Writing 8.7/10 (Around 7 good jokes in there so rating makes sense.)

Ending 8.4/10 (Relatable, would do.)

Direction 8.5/10 (Loved some bits, felt others dragged.)

Young Frankenstein

A comedy classic! Mel Brooks absolutely kills with this comedy about Dr. Frankenstein (not that Frankenstein). As a kid I fell in love with this black and white film. I always thought it was much older until I connected that Gene Wilder was Willy Wonka. Marty Feldman keeps the laughs rolling as Igor, and Peter Boyle plays a great monster. If you love a Mel Brooks film you will love this. I highly recommend even to those that don’t like black and white. Give it the 15 minute test and I promise you will not be disappointed.

Young Frankenstein

One of my all time favorite Mel Brooks films! Even after such a long time in between viewings, I was quoting right along like it had been just yesterday! Any time you have Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks working together you’re going to get comedic gold!
