From what I remember, it was a good movie until the ending. The ending seemed poorly thought out considering she raised her children as well as she could and then they both left her. I can understand the why on why the son left, but the daughter deciding to leave AND become like

Wolf Children

It's been a while since I've seen a Japanese animated film, and I always forget how emotional they can be, and the animation was absolutely beautiful here, as they always are. The premise really makes the film sound simple, and it really is just that. It’s all it needed to be tbh

Rating: 8.7/10 ⭐️

I expected standard fantasy, but its raw take on single motherhood completely wrecked me.

What Worked:
Hosoda’s blocking of the hand-painted countryside is breathtaking. Through my Methodist faith lens, Hana’s sacrificial love beautifully reminds me of the unconditional grace we’re called to show by putting family first. Takagi’s delicate piano score makes those sweeping tracking shots in the snow deeply emotional.

The Cuts:
The middle part really dragged for me; watching the kids grow day-by-day without a central conflict stalled the narrative flow. Keeping it spoiler-free, the initial romance felt super rushed, giving me no time to invest. Plus, the world-building around the wolf transformations felt a little half-baked.

Verdict:
A beautiful, tear-jerking tribute to parenting. A must-watch for a cozy, emotional family drama, but skip if you need fast-paced action.

Favorite Line: “Keep smiling, no matter how hard things get.”
