Within Our Gates Reviews

Griffith was showing a negative light while Micheaux showed us the positive light, this film is very political SPECIALLY for the 20s with rape, inequality, and even harder topics. Overall really good

confusing to follow

Just as powerful in its depiction of racism as it was in the 20s, and still unfortunately relevant; this is an important film that serves as an informative contrast to “Birth of a Nation”. Sets out to educate the audience on these topics and succeeds.

This movie was fine. The messaging of it is interesting but the movie itself just doesn’t stand out to me and is kinda just boring.

While this is a hard film to watch because of its subject matter, it’s a really good and important film. It was the first major film by an African American filmmaker and paved the way for filmmaking telling black stories. It also is scary how some of this racism still goes on.
