I remember loving this movie as a kid, and yes, it still holds up as a family friendly classic. Sweet without being saccharine. Hopeful without being hokey. Never realized it was directed by M. Night though. Forgot he did non-M. Nighty type movies before he blew up.

Good movie except it’s a post-it note movie whose conflict could have been solved by literally any adult the kid talks to just telling him anything about God instead of shrugging their shoulders or saying literally nothing. Sweet movie though, brought tears to my eyes.
