Wicked: For Good

Not as great as the first, underwhelming at times. Happy to see others agree Michelle Yeoh performance was lackluster at best, terrible acting that fell flat and I never liked her singing. With that being said, would’ve liked more singing and emotion in the movie. I hardly cried

while i love these characters deeply, i feel like we didn’t get enough backstory. it felt very rushed at times and leaves me with questions (perhaps they can be answered by watching the wizard of oz, but i would have preferred if we got some elements from the og in this one. i also would have liked to know how much time had passed between the ending of wicked and the beginning of this sequel. was it a year, years or just a couple of months?

I was tearing up when Ariana and Cynthia started singing For Good but didn’t start crying until they said that they loved each other😭 I wish Glinda could know that Elphaba and Figuero both lived😭 but still such a good movie🩷💚 4/5 Stars!!

the film is perfected in every way possible, you can tell it was taken care of and was in the best hands possible. It’s so visually appealing to the eye, it’s bright and colorful and every bit of cgi is really good.

Also not hot take but Ariana Grande is the BEST to do it in both departments; acting and music , she was born for the role. Hats off to the casting directors and herself.

I sadly don’t LOVE musicals like this where every bit of dialogue is singing but I can respect the love and passion that was put into the film

What in the Shiz happened here? Was this supposed to be a trilogy or…? Compared to the first, the build-up and pacing are horrendous. Half of this didn't feel necessary, and the other half still doesn't feel real. The character development and songs made me want to Elekanahmen my way into a yellow brick wall. The production was fine, as was the acting, although Michelle "MM...flip it around...Wicked Witch" Yeoh was a severe miscast. I lost hope right off the broom in the scene between Elphaba and her sister. I honestly haven't felt that triggered in a while.

Michelle Yeoh should never audition for a musical again — respectfully.

I’ll say this again, movie definitely was not made for me so take my next opinions as they are but I enjoyed the non musical portions of the movie, every time they started singing it was like I was hitting a commercial break and had to slog through it so we could finally resume the actual content

I’m not a musical guy so my review on this is jaded, if you like musicals and can ignore Michelle Yeoh’s parts you’ll enjoy the movie more than I did — actual movie portions are solid but not on the same level as the first

6.4 - I know the Wicked fandom is strong, so I’m lowkey nervous to not love this, but it was just fine.

Most of my problems with it are probably more on the story & play’s fault than the movie’s but this is my only frame of reference.

First off, Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo, while not giving transcendent performances, still both gave strong emotional performances that more than kept the story moving. I have no complaints there.

Also, the core messaging of the story & Elphaba & Glinda’s journey both individually & as friends is timely and touching. I have no complaints with how that played out, though the result is ultimately sad - Elphaba does the work, & fights the fight, & makes the changes, & still has to be the villain because that’s what the people can & will accept. And I hate that that’s how our world work too for the most part.

But everything else about this *as a movie* just fell short for me.

The songs aren’t as catchy, & the best song in my opinion (which was original, I learned!) was interrupted at the end by The Lion, & it kind of killed some momentum.

It’s still brutally dull & poorly lit for major chunks of time, which, just like with Part 1, is incredibly disappointing for this magical world.

The supporting cast as a whole is still underwhelming. And the humor is severely lacking in comparison to Part 1.

And I still have problems with the continuity with the original characters. Boq cannot be the same Tin Man. Fiyero cannot be the same Scarecrow. The Cowardly Lion wasn’t that truly terrified of every little thing. Again, I recognize it’s not canon & is essentially fan-fiction, but I have to acknowledge it’s distracting to a degree while watching.

And lastly, the costuming & sets were solid again, but there seemed to be missing that (at least) one BIG, amazing piece that I’m still thinking about later (like the Shiz library).

Overall, it comes down to for this being a once again hyped up as a best picture contender with plenty of awards worthy elements, I just don’t see it. I expected more & I think on the heels of Part 1’s success, that’s the least we should be able to expect. I left Part 1 the first time excited for Part 2 & easily willing to watch Part 1 again. I didn’t feel any of that same excitement leaving this.

I can totally understand having issues with the pacing of act 2 and I definitely noticed some issues here, but I absolutely adored this and all they did to flesh it out, especially the new songs. Literally didn’t dislike a single one. Everyone was phenomenal, but Ariana??? OMG.

8/10 Great Storytelling from all involved, Special Effects top notch, felt the 1st hour seemed to drag out the 1st few songs but then really kicked off the story, full of heart warming moments, although may have been better if shorten to 2hrs. Recommend.

Wicked: For Good

Last year on this very day, I experienced the first part of a dream I had held onto for so long. Sitting in that dark theater and watching Wicked unfold on the big screen felt like stepping into a world I had carried with me for years, a world of music, magic, and meaning that shaped the way I look at storytelling itself.

The score, the colors, the performances… it all reminded me why I fell in love with the wonder and beauty of the theatrical arts in the first place. Wicked has never just been another story to me. Its political and social commentary, the way it challenges perception, power, and the narratives we’re taught to believe has always made my heart race with anticipation. It’s a tale that grows with you, revealing new layers each time you return to it.

Now, after fully reading the book, that perspective has changed yet again. The novel brought a deeper, darker, more complex understanding of these characters and the world of Oz. It added nuance where I never expected it, and it gave me a newfound appreciation for everything the musical chooses to highlight and everything it chooses to leave unsaid.

Afterthoughts on Wicked: For Good (Second Act)

One perspective I hear often is that the second act of Wicked feels rushed or too serious. But for me, that shift is exactly where the film finds its emotional core. It’s in that weight, that sense of tightening fate, that the characters reveal their most human moments. Cynthia Erivo gives a wondrous, powerhouse performance as Elphaba raw, controlled, and vocally unmatched.

But it was Ariana Grande who truly stunned me.

Her portrayal of Glinda carried a level of emotional baggage and vulnerability that I wasn’t expecting something far beyond the surface level brightness people often associate with the character. She didn’t just portray Glinda. She carried her heartbreak, her pressure to be perfect, and the emotional contradictions that make her more than just a “good witch.” Watching her in IMAX, especially during “For Good,” felt like witnessing someone transform completely.

And honestly… if she does not win Best Supporting Actress, I will be absolutely stunned. Not because of hype, not because of her fame, but because she delivered a performance that was genuinely awards caliber. A performance that elevated the entire second act, grounding it with sincerity and heartbreak.

Experiencing both the film and the book has made Wicked feel richer than ever. It’s a story that evolves, that follows you through different phases of your life, whispering new truths each time. And as I look at where I was a year ago and where I stand now, I realize that this journey with Wicked has been more than entertainment, it’s become a piece of who I am.

The first movie is better, but the musical will always have a special place in my heart. I loved how well Ariana and Cynthia depicted the relationship between Glinda and Elphaba🥹
For Good is my favorite song, but the music was absolutely wonderful throughout both movies, and when they harmonized it was truly the best. ✨
